There has been quite a substantial number of sanctions leveled against Iran by the US government and the international bodies like the EU and the UN over quite a number of years. Iran has been receiving these sanctions because it is a security threat to the whole world. This is because Iran is reported as being supportive of terror groups. Iran is also reported to be having nuclear weapons. For years now, all efforts to dissuade Iran from these vices and many more have not been successful. This and many more vices have led Iran to this precarious position. However much the Iranian government may deny it, Iran has suffered from the effect of these sanctions. So much that it has affected their economy and it is said that it might just be hanging by a thread. Inflation levels are really high, supply of goods to the countries is not constant and so on and so forth. The ripple effects of these sanctions have also been affecting the people of Iranian descent all over the world. The Iranian Americans are currently hit worst by the effects of these sanctions.
People of Iranian descent living in the US have been having a hard time getting jobs. No company wants to risk being slapped with a penalty as a result of hiring any of them One major result of these sanctions against Iran for its people living in the US is lack of employment.
The business community is one of the most affected groups of people because their businesses have come to a standstill. This is partly because of the ban on imports and exports because those who has already established market in Iran are not able to reach the market. Because of the fear that these sanctions have cast on people, you find that no one wants to do business with these Iranian-Americans. The sad thing is that this is not really part of the sanctions but because people don’t understand what they sanction entail, they just cannot take a risk. Just because they are from Iran, some of these people are denied their right to buy goods and services.
Iranian-Americans who used to send funds to their elderly parents back home cannot do this anymore because of the ban. No bank wants to help them because they are afraid of the penalties they have been threatened with.
To add salt to injury, anyone who inherits some property from their relatives who pass away in Iran cannot get access to it or benefit from it. Even if they do inherit anything for example land, they are not allowed to sell it which means that they will not benefit from it in any way. These are some of the unintended consequences on the people of Iranian descent living in the US.
